Telecomprovider AT&T joins with the Cuban state-owned telecom provider to provide roaming services in Cuba. With this new joint venture customers of AT&T can make a direct call to the United States. Before this construction call were diverted via other coutries to the the US, this could which leaded to high costs for US customers. This also means that simcard swap for sms and voicemail is no longer required.
A big factor in this deal were the rebuilt relationship with Cuba due to the effort from Obama. Last year Cuba reopened the American amabssee in Havanna. The past year both countries signed new contracts on the collaboration of environment, aviation, justice and telecommunications. Cuba hopes to attract a minimum of $ 2 bn in new foreign investments.
